This client had a double celebration for her sisters. It was one's birthday and another's wedding! She knew exactly what she wanted and gave me the files to follow.

The birthday cake was moist chocolate.

The wedding cake was red velvet with cream cheese topping.

This was my second attempt with roses and my first with calla-lily and leaves. Making the leaves realistic looking was a real struggle but I think I did okay on the third try :)

She'd been thinking a whole lot about what she wanted and decided on Chocobo! Jack loves Chocobo too. Years ago when he was very interested in origami he created a couple of versions of it. This was my first ever order for Halloween and I was pretty excited. But I was terribly busy so my wonderful assistant stepped in and did the most fantastic job! He made the eyeballs, weapons (his passion), tombstones and spiders!

This client wanted 36pc cupcakes and due to budget I suggested 2-D angry birds which turned out very nice. In fact I think they're cuter than the 3-D birds. She later stretched her budget and asked me to change eight pieces to 3-D figures.

Of late, my son, Russell, plays only one game on my iPod touch, Cookie Dozer. For his 21st birthday I surprised him with a Cookie Dozer cake. I accidentally told him it was an iPod touch game and surprisingly he thought it was Plants vs Zombie which he hasn't played in a long time. He was very surprised and happy to see the cake especially when he'd expected something else! Yay!

This client's girlfriend is a Snoopy fan (just like me!). This was for her 21st birthday. It turned out quite nicely but I'd forgotten about where to place the candles! On collection day I'd asked him to bring someone along to make sure the cake doesn't topple over (the house is narrow and Snoopy's heavy). He couldn't find anyone and came alone. As he was putting the cake down in his car we heard it topple!

This is what it looked like after I lifted it up. Snoopy's left ear dropped off too! But thank goodness he and Woodstock were fine.

This accident actually turned out for the better coz I managed to save it and add the candles. Good thing my client lives in SS18 Subang Jaya. After I repaired it, I delivered it to his house with Jack's help, and off he and his friends went to Malacca where the party was being held! I made them promise to drive slowly and they and the cake arrived safely after more than 3 hours!!! :)

2kg moist chocolate cake

Just as with the penguin cake, I made a simple fondant holder for the candles. The thought of sticking candles into the penguin's and kitty's head wasn't very nice.

This client ordered a 3-tier moist chocolate cake for her mother-in-law's birthday celebration. It was my first tiered cake and I had to do loads of research. The toughest part was transferring the bottom layer onto the fondant covered base! It was impossible to lift it so I had to slide it onto the board!

This client ordered a 1kg butter cake (3) and a 1kg moist chocolate cake (9) for his wife's birthday. Quite creative, don't you think? I like his choice of colours for the numbers. They go very well with the toppings.

I was very busy this particular weekend and only managed to make a 6" moist chocolate cake for my son's girlfriend. I'd planned a particular design for her but "NO time" so this was my very last minute design. Worst thing was she was around and walked up and down while I was decorating it. Oh, she's a very detailed person and wanted the outline on the face a little more prominent. She also went shopping for his "fan/propeller" and bell. This client called me on 26th to order a 3-D Mickey or Minnie mouse cake for her daughter's 2nd birthday celebration on the 28th! I was already up to my eyebrows with orders for that weekend! Told her I might be only able to make a 2-D fully buttercream design. But as usual, I'm too soft-hearted and imagined a loving mum wanting to give her darling daughter a cake that would make her really happy! Sleepless nights again... But thanks to my assistant/consultant, Jack, who made Mickey we managed to give her what she wanted. Best of all little Zahra loved the cake and finished a whole big slice! :D

This client's son must want an "real" omnitrix real bad! She ordered 25 chocolate cupcakes and a 1.5kg chocolate cake, both with omnitrix design, and the latter for the next week (double celebration!). I suggested image printing for the cupcakes but she preferred hand-made with sugarpaste. I thought "drat" but little did I realize it was double "drat"! It took me 3 late nights to complete this! Never underestimate a design by it's look! Looks simple, doesn't it? Lots of cutting, fine rolling, and sticking, and I'm very fussy about detail! What made it all worth while was that my client not only loved the design but also the taste! She texted me to tell me even her mother who isn't a cake lover liked it! Wow!

It really helps when my clients tell me what they want, preferably with images, and then we can discuss what I can deliver. It is quite worrying, at least for me, to think that I made something I like but my client might not appreciate. This client not only told but showed me exactly what she wanted! Thanks, Mazatul! :)

I did wonder when someone would order a Barney cake from me. He seems to be a very popular TV character. Finally the day came when my sister's friend ordered a Barney cake for his son's first birthday. The cake was covered in buttercream and not wanting to mess Barney I placed him on a piece of fondant, and I didn't attach him to the cake so that he could be kept as a souvenir. Sad thing, he fell off the cake while being transported home, but luckily towards the back so "Happy Birthday, Jayden" was still intact! Phew! Good news is Jayden was very excited when he saw the cake :)

This client is a real Hello Kitty fan! She ordered this for her daughter's 4th birthday. She knows every detail of this cat and noticed that the ribbon of my cake from last year was a bit on the small side. She requested for a larger ribbon and thicker whiskers, and also slim candles. I made little red ribbons to hold the candles as she didn't want to stick the candles in kitty's face!

My dad's and my birthday fall on the same date. How cool! Two days earlier I decided to make a Snoopy cake (I just love Snoopy, he's the coolest dog ever!). But I was busy with an order and didn't have much time to plan. Had to think really fast, with measurements, proportion, how much cake to make, which tins to use, and the sugarpaste figures to make!!! Another sleepless night! Thank goodness for my assistant who helped make Snoopy and Woodstock. Great job, Jack!

This was a 1kg layered moist chocolate cake (base) and 1kg layered butter cake (roof).

Some people had a little fun with poor dismembered Snoopy!

This client wanted a carrot walnut cake with a lucky clover for her sister's birthday but changed the order to a tiramisu. But due to the unavailability of mascarpone cheese I suggested red velvet which they loved! As usual Jack helped me with the lucky clover :)

This is an 8-inch square which costs RM80. A 9-inch round one would cost the same.

This client wanted a simple moist chocolate cake with buttercream for her 11-year old nephew who is fascinated with the weather. Knowing what I know, I couldn't help but make something a little special. Hope he liked it.

Golf-theme chocolate cupcakes was the order. My client really liked the design but sad to say, due to our climate the golf sticks went really soft and bent over :(

My first ever full-scale fondant covered, two-tiered character cake and I'm really happy with it! My 9-year old niece, Hayley, saw the video of the playable Angry Birds cake and said she wanted one exactly like it... fat chance! Then she changed her mind and wanted a Mario Brothers cake (roll eyes)! I'm glad to report that she loved this cake and so did her parents who are Angry Birds fans! This was a 2kg moist chocolate cake (base) and 0.5kg butter cake (hill).

This 6-year old birthday boy sure knows what he wants! They'd ordered this alien called Big Chill and when his mum sent me the picture I told them I'd get an image printed but the birthday boy insisted that the image be in buttercream! Luckily for him my supplier's printer was out of order so I had to manually draw the creature with buttercream :D

My colleague's sister ordered 25 butter cupcakes and a 1kg butter cake for her son's birthday celebration at school. She asked for Ben10 colour scheme (no image) but my colleague decided to surprise them with a proper Ben10 cake :)

These two cakes were for my sisters' church function. The first one is a four-layered red velvet cake with cream cheese topping. The second one is a butter cake with buttercream topping.

My son's office had a Christmas party where his girlfriend was one of the organizers. Purple was the theme (her favourite colour) and she ordered 50 butter cupcakes to match!

Year-end Babies

This was for a 3-year-old's birthday. It's a 2kg moist chocolate cake covered with fondant.

These were for a client's son's first birthday. The Mickey Mouse picture was printed with edible ink on sugar paper. The cake was for a family celebration and the cupcakes were for her colleagues! They were presented in individual containers.

This was for a regular client's son's birthday. These are his favourite dinosaurs and his mummy emailed me the picture which I got my supplier to print on sugar paper. She only orders my moist chocolate cake which she calls their "all time favourite" :)

Deepavali

Got the idea from the "kolam". Painstakingly dotted the design which took a really long time and made my fingers stiff! But well worth it coz I really like the way it turned out :)

This client ordered 50 butter cupcakes and 50 chocolate cupcakes for Deepavali. She asked for some ideas and the first thing that came to mind was bright colours. I showed her some samples and to my surprise she wanted pastel colours. These were her choice of colours and designs...lovely!

Hantaran

A colleague ordered these for a relative's wedding. The theme was purple, yellow, and white.

These were a side order. I used the same designs but changed the colours which really made a difference :)

Anniversary

A friend ordered this 2kg chocolate cake for her parent's 48th wedding anniversary. Isn't it just so romantic? Purple and yellow was the theme...they seem to be the "in" colours.

This was a 1.5kg cheese cake with cheese topping and

Barbie

This client wanted a 1.5kg moist chocolate cake with a little girl figurine for her 7 year old god-daughter. But 3 days before delivery date she changed her order because her god-daughter wanted a Barbie cake! This was my first Barbie cake and I frantically called my supplier for the special cake tin and a pretty Barbie to go with it. To get the proper height 2.5kg of cake was required and I had to specially make the box to fit the cake. Good thing I kept some large cardboard from Ikea! ;)

Peggy

At the moment we have 3 cats, Peggy, Ebony and Manja, and a kitten, Pikachu (which I am trying to find a home for). The first one we saved is called Peggy. My son, Russell, loved her very much when she was little and spent a lot of time playing with her. As she grew up she became very "proud" and doesn't quite like us to stroke her. But she'll come to us for some attention when she's in the mood! She's dark brown with tiger-like stripes and white feet, with a small white patch on her nose. I've only managed to make her a plain dark brown with white toes and a little white patch on her nose. No one knew it was supposed to be her but...oh well!

My son, Jack, is a die-hard Paramore fan! I wanted to make a Night Fury (How to Train Your Dragon) cake for his birthday coz he just adores Night Fury but we ended up with Paramore instead! I was pretty busy with the keyboard cake and work, so after preparing the yellow wings for the butterfly I called Jack from office and asked him to fill in the pattern with an artline pen (coz Jack's very artistic).

This is the fantastic result!

Humpty Dumpty

This little 3 year-old is into nursery rhymes and her mummy said Humpty Dumpty is probably her favourite. "Probably" because every time you ask her, she mentions a different rhyme! My nephew was around when I was planning the design and he suggested I use a real egg. He wasn't serious but I thought it was a great idea! Of course I emptied the egg and used just the shell ;)

At the end we didn't have either designs, as you can see from the pictures, but Erin was totally "blown away" with the cake, and so was everyone else (thank God)!

Father's Day

Making a figure of my dad was a real challenge. I had to use things that were characteristic of him or it wouldn't be him! Didn't know whether to dress him in his favourite outfit (green shirt, dark grey pants and orange shoes) or singlet and sarong, and he had to have his sleeked back hair, large glasses and "tongkat". After much thought I decided on his favourite outfit.

Nothing could have made me happier that night than when he arrived in his favourite outfit!

Ferrari

This client's husband is a Ferrari/F1 fan. At first she wanted a Ferrari cake but changed her order to cupcakes as she'd never had birthday cupcakes before. Instead of my normal buttercream designs I decided to use sugar paper printouts. This was my first time using sugar paper printouts and I was very excited and pleased with the end result.

The Beatles

These were for my friend's daughter's 21st birthday. The birthday girl sent me pictures of the Beatles' silhouette cupcakes which I used and she also wanted the Union Jack. I was very excited to add the "Peace" and "Flower Power" signs as it was from my era...just shows how "old" I am! What was most pleasing was that the birthday girl liked the cupcakes so much she regretted not ordering more!

This is sooo cute. My friend, Matthew, ordered this cake for his mother's birthday. You might ask, "why the five leaves?" Well, his mother's name means "five leaves"! I think this is just so adorable!

Now, this was for my son's girlfriend's birthday. She loves purple so I spent a couple of sleepless nights making these purple roses :)

This was for a good friend's daughter. It's moist chocolate cake and I decided to put white roses for the contrast. I'd seen these rolled-up roses on the internet and really like them so I decided to try it out. Made the name with fondant.

I liked how the roses turned out so much I decided to use them on a purple cake. I think white on purple looks really nice.

Engagement Cake

Another regular client of mine ordered an engagement cake for his sister-in-law. The problem I faced was that he and his wife had different ideas for the cake...and they didn't know it! All he told me was "3kg, two hearts". A couple of days after later his wife called me and told me it was a blue and beige theme. She wanted a beige cake with blue design but I suggested a blue cake with beige design ;) The day before collection he called me up and told me to make sure the cake was colourful!!! Pengsan!

But we sorted it out :D

My client has inspired me to make coloured cakes with white designs and wordings. I've always had this concept that people, in general, are superstitious about white wordings. And some people don't like their cakes simple. But I think simple can be quite sweet.

Housewarming

These were orders for a housewarming party, one box chocolate cupcakes and one box butter cupcakes.

Double Celebration!

A teenager called me up to order cupcakes for mother's day AND her mother's birthday...how sweet! She wanted 16 cupcakes, blue theme (her mom's favourite colour), for her mom's birthday and 25 cupcakes for mother's day. Couldn't fit "MOTHER'S" in so I suggest "MAMA'S" instead. This is how they turned out :)

She's also the first person to rent a cupcake stand from me. Will post details of rental soon!

I've had a faithful client since March this year. She doesn't like complicated or even simple designs. She likes her cakes a colour of her choice with white wordings. They actually turned out looking quite elegant (my opinion).

This was my first try at making figures out of sugarpaste and I'm very happy with the results. Of course I had some help from my "assistant/consultant", Jack, who helped me with the skirt and the birthday girl's name. What would I do without you, Jack? xxx
My client wanted a pretty princess (with tiara) in pink theme cake for her daughter's first birthday. She wanted flowers and butterflies and had requested for the name to be in a "fun" font. Supplies in Malaysia are quite limited so Jack helped me make the name. It's amazing how many ideas and tutorials one can get from the internet! Boy, am I glad I'm not too IT illiterate :D

Cupcakes Galore!

People have been asking me how much my cupcakes cost.

Cupcakes with basic designs involving only buttercream icing, like the ones above, cost RM50 per box.

Farewell to my son's college mate. Now, special requests like the one above which required sugar paste cost RM60. And to be clear, each box comes in one flavour. The one above is in two flavours because it was a special request from my son, and he has special privileges ;)

These are my CNY cupcakes. Because of the specially made flowers and mandarin they cost RM70 per box.

Halal Cakes

Some people have asked if my cakes and cookies are halal.

The good news is they definitely are!

I have separate sieves, bowls and utensils for different ingredients and everything is cleaned with my baking-only sponge (which has never been used on non-Halal equipment). I'm very meticulous about this sort of thing in general and have also talked to a few Muslim friends to make sure that everything follows the rules.

Everyone loves Chinese New Year just for the sheer amount of munchies there are to be eaten. It's as if CNY is the one time you can stuff your face and no one will judge you (cos their mouths are full).

If you've never had Honey Joys, they're a mixture of cornflakes, honey, butter scooped out in little papercups. My family loves them, and they're always first to go during CNY. I guess that's testament to how good they are ;)

Hayley, Caitlin, Erin

These are cakes I'd made for my darling nieces, Hayley, Caitlin, and Erin.

This first one is with characters from Richard Scarry's children's storybooks. My kids used to love these books too.

Hayley asked for a butterfly cake. She was into butterflies then.

This was when every kid was crazy about NEMO.

Caitlin really loved the Maisy books. For a change I drew and laminated characters and animals from the storybooks and stuck them onto a "farm". I really liked this one.

Caitlin had started ballet classes so I decided to dress this moist chocolate cake (her favourite) with a sugar paste ballerina. I normally use buttercream to dress my cakes, sometimes with some sugar paste flowers. This was the first time I used sugar paste to such an extent. Was so worried her arms and legs would break. They didn't :D

Last year I asked Caitlin what cake she would like. Of course she wanted a chocolate cake...with a happy face! Now, how was I going to put a happy face on her cake? Asked my boys for help and my youngest one, Jack, thought of a "smiley". I cut out a circle from yellow sugar paste and Jack helped me with the eyes and mouth. He's very artistic and did a really good job! Thanks, Jack xxx

This was for Erin's first birthday. Chocolate again because her sisters just love it! The flowers are buttercream and the name and bumble bees are sugar paste.

Just had to show you a different angle of the cake so you could see the bumble bees "flying". Can you see the bees smiling? :)

Decided to show you some of the cupcakes I've made.

Ok, these butter cupcakes I made for a friend last Christmas. She ordered 11 boxes of 16 cupcakes to give away and also another box of 25 cupcakes for her office!

She's been very, very supportive (thanks, Christina).

Anniversary cupcakes

This is a similar design to my first post. Last December a friend ordered 25 butter cupcakes with the letterings "HAPPY ANNIVERSARY PUP AND TERRI", for her friend's anniversary (obviously). I thought it would look pretty dull so I suggested this same design with a different colour theme. My friend chose pink, Terri's favourite colour. I think it turned out quite nicely, don't you?
Colour makes all the difference.

Eda's wedding cupcakes

This is one of my favourites, like the contrasting colours. Butter cupcakes with buttercream topping. Made these last November for a friend's "hantaran". I'm in Subang Jaya and she was in Kelantan! We were worried the buttercream wouldn't stay in shape through the long journey. She got her sister and brother-in-law to collect the cupcakes two days before the ceremony. She'd ordered another two boxes of butter cupcakes and chocolate cupcakes. I asked her brother-in-law to put the box of "hantaran" under the other two boxes in the front seat so that it would be protected from the heat. But he insisted they would be better off in the boot! Your guess is as good as mine. Halfway through the journey he checked on the cakes and the buttercream had melted so badly you couldn't see the design! Thank goodness the other box of butter cupcakes were of the same design and my friend could replace the melted ones with these. So, it was a pretty good ending :)
