A Family Affair

Hayley's 8th Birthday
Hayley loves Spongebob!
That's Hayley with her little sister, Erin, who wasn't allowed to blow out the candles!

Caitlin's 7th Birthday
Caitlin's favourite characters from her favourite cartoon, Chowder
Sweet Caitlin!

Erin's 4th Birthday
Erin absolutely adores Jessie of Toy Story so her mum requested for a figure of Jessie as the cake topper.  Honestly, I didn't know if I could do it and suggested a figure of Erin holding her favourite toy, Tini. Mum wasn't too happy. At the end we didn't have either designs, as you can see from the pictures, but Erin was totally "blown away" with the cake, and so was everyone else (thank God)!
By the way, this was my first fondant covered cake.
A very happy Erin!

Father's Day
Making a figure of my dad was a real challenge. I had to use things that were characteristic of him or it wouldn't be him! Didn't know whether to dress him in his favourite outfit (green shirt, dark grey pants and orange shoes) or singlet and sarong, and he had to have his sleeked back hair, large glasses and "tongkat". After much thought I decided on his favourite outfit.
Nothing could have made me happier that night than when he arrived in his favourite outfit!
Dad, surrounded by four of his six lovely daughters! ;)

Special Themed Cupcakes

Ferrari
This client's husband is a Ferrari/F1 fan.  At first she wanted a Ferrari cake but changed her order to cupcakes as she'd never had birthday cupcakes before.  Instead of my normal buttercream designs I decided to use sugar paper printouts.  This was my first time using sugar paper printouts and I was very excited and pleased with the end result.

The Beatles
These were for my friend's daughter's 21st birthday.  The birthday girl sent me pictures of the Beatles' silhouette cupcakes which I used and she also wanted the Union Jack.  I was very excited to add the "Peace" and "Flower Power" signs as it was from my era...just shows how "old" I am!  What was most pleasing was that the birthday girl liked the cupcakes so much she regretted not ordering more!
(she'd ordered 50 cupcakes)

Special Cakes for Special People

This is sooo cute.  My friend, Matthew, ordered this cake for his mother's birthday.  You might ask, "why the five leaves?"  Well, his mother's name means "five leaves"!  I think this is just so adorable!
I do apologize for my writing...haven't mastered centralizing yet :(

Now, this was for my son's girlfriend's birthday.  She loves purple so I spent a couple of sleepless nights making these purple roses  :)

This was for a good friend's daughter.  It's moist chocolate cake and I decided to put white roses for the contrast.  I'd seen these rolled-up roses on the internet and really like them so I decided to try it out. Made the name with fondant.

I liked how the roses turned out so much I decided to use them on a purple cake. I think white on purple looks really nice.
